Skyrim Together server FAQ

Skyrim TogetherUpdated Oct 30, 20265 min read

Short answers about running a Skyrim Together Reborn server on PlayNHost. Every player needs their own Skyrim Special Edition on PC and the same mod version as the server, friends join with F2 and Connect, and the server holds settings while characters stay in each player's saves.

Before you start

Does the server need its own copy of Skyrim? No. The server is the Skyrim Together team's own program and loads no game files. Each player needs their own copy to play. Full guide

Which Skyrim can join? Skyrim Special Edition, latest version, on Steam, on Windows 8.1 or newer. The mod team's Supported games page also lists the GOG version. The Anniversary Upgrade is not needed. Full guide

Can console, Game Pass, Epic or VR players join? No. The mod team lists all of them as not supported, and says it will never support consoles. Full guide

How many players can join? Your plan's slots. The mod team recommends 2 to 8 players. Full guide

Where are our characters saved? In each player's own Skyrim saves on their PC, not on the server. Save often with F5. Full guide

Joining

How do my friends join? After escaping Helgen: F2 or Right Ctrl, Connect, the full Server Address with its port in Address, the password in Password, Connect. Full guide

How do I know the server is ready? The Console shows Server, the version, started on port and your port, for example Server v1.8.4 started on port 25570, and the badge says Online. Full guide

Why must I type the port? Without it, the game tries port 10578, which is not your PlayNHost port. Full guide

What does "This server expects version" mean? The player's Skyrim Together Reborn version differs from the server's. Check the server with /version in the Console. Full guide

How do I invite friends? Click Join on Overview to copy the address and send it with the password and your mod version. Full guide

Passwords and admin

How do I add a password? Type it in Server Password under Settings, Game Settings, then Restart now. Full guide

How do I list my server publicly? Leave Server Password empty, switch Announce Server on and restart. Full guide

How do I become admin? Join with the Admin Password, or run the Grant Admin task on Quick Tasks with your player name while you are connected. Full guide

Why did I lose admin? Admin ends when you leave the server. Join with the Admin Password again or run Grant Admin again. Full guide

Can I ban or kick someone? No, the server has no such command. Set or change the Server Password. Full guide

Settings

How do I change the difficulty? Difficulty under Game Settings, 0 (Novice) to 5 (Legendary); new servers are at 4 (Master). Full guide

How do I turn on PvP? Flip Enable PvP under Game Settings and restart. Full guide

Why was my Console change undone? The panel writes Game Settings into the server at every start. Make lasting changes there. Full guide

Where do I change time speed or the death system? In STServer.ini under Settings, Config files, with the server stopped. Full guide

Which commands are there? /help lists them all; /players, /AddAdmin, /SetTime and /version are the everyday ones. Full guide

Mods, updates, backups

Can we use mods? Each player installs them on their own PC; the mod team advises against other mods. The server can refuse players whose mod list differs. Full guide

Does the server update itself? No, it keeps the version it was installed with. Click Update and reinstall under Settings, Game Settings to get the newest release. The panel takes a backup first and keeps config/STServer.ini. Full guide

What is in a backup? The server folder: the program, STServer.ini and the Data folder. Characters are not in it. Full guide

Can I restart the server on a schedule? Yes, with a schedule on Quick Tasks using Send Restart. The server holds no world, so a restart only disconnects players. Full guide
