When players cannot join a Skyrim Together Reborn server on PlayNHost, check three things first: the badge says Online, the address was pasted with its port, and every player runs the same Skyrim Together Reborn version as the server. Below are the messages the game or the server shows, each with its cause and fix.
How do I find the cause on the server side?
Open the Console tab while the player tries to join. The Skyrim Together Reborn 1.8.4 server writes a line for each attempt:
| Console line | What it means |
|---|---|
Connection received <id> | An attempt reached the server. The lines below say how it ended. |
New player '<name>' [<id>] connected with <n> mods | The player is in. |
tried to connect with client <version> - Version mismatch | The player's Skyrim Together version is not the server's. |
has a bad password, kicking. | The password was wrong. |
tried to connect, but SKSE is disallowed - Kicked. (or MO2) | B Allow SKSE or B Allow MO2 is off. |
ModPolicy: refusing connection | The player's mods differ from Data/loadorder.txt. |
New admin session for | Someone joined with the Admin Password. |
Connection ended <id> - '<name>' disconnected | The connection closed. 'NULL' as the name means the player never got in. |
Connection received with none of the reason lines after it means the server was full: Skyrim Together writes no line of its own for a full server. No Connection received at all means the attempt never reached the server: the address or port is wrong, or the server is not running.
This server expects version ... but you are on version ...
The full message is This server expects version <server version> but you are on version <your version>. The Skyrim Together Reborn mod on the player's PC is a different build from the server. The game may also say You cannot connect to the server because it does not have the same version of Skyrim Together as you. Every player must run exactly the server's version. Fix and steps: Players see This server expects version on your Skyrim Together server.
Could not connect to the specified server
Could not connect to the specified server. Please make sure you've entered the correct address and that you're not experiencing network issues means the game got no answer.
- Check that the badge on Overview says Online. If not, click Start.
- Copy Server Address again from Overview and paste all of it, port included. Without a port, the game tries 10578, which is not your PlayNHost port.
Full join steps: How to join your Skyrim Together server.
The address is of invalid format
The game shows this when the Address field is empty when you click Connect. Paste the Server Address from Overview exactly as copied: the address, a colon, the port.
The password you entered is incorrect
The text in Password matches neither Server Password nor Admin Password under Settings, Game Settings. Copy the password from there again. After you change a password in the panel, restart the server: the new one only counts after the next start.
This server is full
Every player slot is taken. The limit is Max Players, which your plan sets. If you lowered it with the pencil beside Slots on Overview, raise it there again, up to your plan's number. See How many players can a Skyrim Together server have.
This server disallows SKSE or MO2
The message is This server disallows <SKSE or MO2>. Please remove them to join. The server's B Allow SKSE or B Allow MO2 setting is off, and the player uses Skyrim Script Extender or Mod Organizer 2. Either the player plays without it, or you switch that setting back on in STServer.ini: How to make everyone use the same mods on your Skyrim Together server.
This server has ModPolicy enabled
The server checks every player's mod list against its own Data/loadorder.txt, and the player's list differs. The message goes on with Please remove the following mods to join: or Please install the following mods to join: and the mod names. The player changes their mods to match, or you update or remove the server's list. If every player is refused, even for mods they have, the file probably has Windows line endings. Same guide: How to make everyone use the same mods on your Skyrim Together server.
The server stops right after it starts
If the Console shows Failed to start: ModPolicy's ModCheck is enabled, but no mods are installed., the mod check is on but the file Data/loadorder.txt is missing on the server. Skyrim Together shuts itself down. Upload the file to the Data folder under Files, or switch B Enable Mod Check off again under Settings, Config files, STServer.ini, then start the server.
For any other start problem, read the last lines of the Console and see How to fix a server that will not start.
The game crashes when I connect
The official Skyrim Together Reborn troubleshooting page names two causes: a processor without AES-NI support, which the mod needs, and a mistyped address or port. Paste the address from Overview again. A crash on the player's PC is not something the server can change.
The Skyrim Together window does not open with F2
The mod is not running in that game. The player should start Skyrim the way the mod's setup guide says and check the setup: What players need to join a Skyrim Together server.
My server is not in Public servers
Announce Server is off on a new server, so it is not listed. Switch it on and restart: How to make your Skyrim Together server public or private.
The /settime chat command does nothing
/settime in the in-game chat works only for an admin, and on a server that is not listed in Public servers also for the party leader (Skyrim Together Reborn 1.8 server code). For anyone else it does nothing, and the 1.8.4 game shows no message. Get admin with the Admin Password or the Grant Admin task on Quick Tasks. Admin rights end when a player leaves, so they are needed again after every reconnect: How to become admin on your Skyrim Together server.
Grant Admin says is not a valid player
The Console line <name> is not a valid player means no connected player has that name. The player must be on the server when you run Grant Admin, and the name must match their Skyrim character's name. Run the task from Your tasks: under Default tasks, Run does not use your saved name. Type a space in the name as _: the panel removes spaces, and Skyrim Together turns _ back into a space.
My setting change was undone
- A change made with a command in the Console, such as
/TogglePvp, lasts only until the next start. The panel writes Game Settings into the server's settings at every start. - A change to
STServer.inisaved while the server was running can be overwritten: a running Skyrim Together server writes its own settings into that file when a Console command follows/set, and when it is stopped with/quit. Stop the server first, then edit. See How to change advanced gameplay options on your Skyrim Together server.
A Console command gives an error
Commands must begin with /: type the slash, for example/players.Unknown command. Type /help for help.: the command does not exist./helplists the ones that do.Expected 2 arguments but got 1: the command needs more values, for example/SetTime 9 30.
