Most problems with a Necesse server come down to a few causes. Start with the one that matches what you see.
Players cannot connect, or the game says the versions do not match
Why: Necesse updated on Steam but the server is still on the older build, because Steam Auto Update is off by default.
Fix: Turn on Steam Auto Update in Settings, then Game Settings and restart the server. Make sure Steam Beta Branch is empty unless everyone is on that beta.
My world looks brand new after I changed a setting
Why: Save Name was changed. The server loads, or creates, the world with that exact name. Your old world is still saved in its own zip.
Fix: Set Save Name back to the original name and restart. Names are matched exactly, including capital letters.
Save Name will not save
Why: The name is longer than 20 characters or contains spaces or characters such as quotes, backslashes, asterisks or question marks.
Fix: Use up to 20 letters, numbers or hyphens, with no spaces.
The server needs a long time to come up the first time with a new world
Why: A new world is generated on first start, which takes longer than a normal start.
Fix: Wait a few minutes and watch the Console. A normal start prints a line saying the server started on your world.
Typing a command in game does nothing or says you lack permission
Why: Your permission level is too low for that command. Many commands need Moderator, Admin or Owner.
Fix: Type /mypermissions to check your level and ask an Owner to raise it with /permissions set. For the first Owner, open a support ticket.
I cannot raise the player limit
Why: Player Slots is set by your plan and is read-only.
Fix: Use Players on the server overview to run with fewer players, or upgrade your plan for a higher limit.
Still stuck?
Open a ticket in the category that fits and include the last 50 to 100 lines of the console. See How to open a support ticket and How to fix a server that will not start.
