What is a Lavalink node?
Lavalink is a standalone audio server. Your bot tells it what to play and it streams the audio to Discord, so a music bot uses very little memory itself and many bots can share one node.
How does my bot connect?
Copy the address from the server's Overview page and the password from application.yml, then put both in your bot's Lavalink client settings (Shoukaku, lavalink-client, Wavelink, Lavalink.py and others). A step-by-step guide is in the knowledgebase.
Which version do I get?
The latest Lavalink 4 release at install. You can pick another version in the server's settings.
Can I install plugins?
Yes. Plugins are added through application.yml and the plugins folder in Files, as the Lavalink documentation describes.
How much memory do I need?
1 GB is enough for a node serving a few hundred listeners. Choose 2 GB or 4 GB for a busy bot or several bots.
Will it play from every site?
What a node can play depends on its sources and plugins. Sites such as YouTube change often and can block music bots, so a source that worked last month may need an update. We keep the node running; we cannot change what a source allows.
What is not allowed?
Crypto mining, spam or scraping, selfbots, port scanners, DDoS or stress tools, and proxies or VPNs. A server that breaks these rules is suspended.
Do you help set up my bot?
