Asked

Questions

What people ask before they host an OpenClaw agent. The knowledgebase has the longer answers.

Which AI providers can I use?
OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, xAI or OpenRouter; one key is enough.
Does the plan include AI usage?
No. Your AI provider bills it directly; we never see or resell model usage.
Can strangers use my agent?
No. It answers only the Telegram or Discord ID you set on the Agent page.
Is this official OpenClaw hosting?
No. We run the open-source OpenClaw; we are not affiliated with the OpenClaw Foundation.
How much does an OpenClaw server cost at PlayNHost?
OpenClaw plans start at US$5.49 (€4.99) a month with 2 GB RAM, up to US$17.99 (€15.49) with 8 GB RAM. That is the regular monthly price, before any first-month discount, and every plan includes DDoS protection, SFTP and 24/7 support.
What do you get with an OpenClaw server at PlayNHost?
An OpenClaw server at PlayNHost comes with: Telegram and Discord; Your Own AI Key; Only You Can Message It; Newest OpenClaw at Every Start. You choose the region when you order (Europe, North America, South America, Asia or Australia), and setup starts as soon as payment clears.

What you get

A server that runs OpenClaw for you around the clock. You bring an API key from your AI provider and a Telegram or Discord bot token; the panel stores them encrypted and starts OpenClaw with them. You then talk to your agent from Telegram or Discord, the way you would on your own computer, except it keeps running when your computer is off. Your AI provider bills your model use directly; our plan covers the server.

PlayNHost is not affiliated with the OpenClaw Foundation. OpenClaw is open-source software under the MIT licence.

How much memory OpenClaw needs

OpenClaw's own docs give 1 GB as the minimum and 2 GB or more as the recommendation. We tested OpenClaw 2026.11.1 on our own servers before selling it, with no AI model and no chat app connected yet:

Memory limitWhat happened
1 GBTook 74 seconds to start, raised its own memory warning, and the system stopped two of its processes for lack of memory
2 GBReady in 19 seconds, about 1.1 GB in use at rest

On our finished setup, before any conversation, OpenClaw uses about 1.2 to 1.4 GB at rest on a 2 GB plan. That is why our plans start at 2 GB. A 2 GB plan runs OpenClaw at rest, but in our test it once touched 2,033 of its 2,048 MiB while starting, so we recommend 4 GB for headroom. That is our judgment: we have no measurements of busy agents yet.

Which AI providers you can use

Paste a key from any one of these on the Agent page: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, xAI or OpenRouter. One key is enough. Keys are stored encrypted, never shown again, and reach only your server. Your provider bills your model use directly; our plan covers the server, not the AI.

Who can talk to your agent

An OpenClaw agent can run commands and send messages for you, so it answers only you. On the Agent page you enter your Telegram user ID or your Discord user ID, and messages from anyone else are ignored. Do not know your Telegram ID? Send your bot any message before you set it: the bot replies with your ID, and still lets nobody in. Your agent has no port open to the internet; it connects out to Telegram and Discord on its own.

What it does not include yet

  • A web dashboard. You use OpenClaw from Telegram or Discord. OpenClaw's browser dashboard is not offered yet.
  • Other chat apps. Telegram and Discord only for now. WhatsApp is not allowed, because the libraries it relies on break WhatsApp's terms. iMessage needs a Mac.
  • Browser automation. The server has no Chrome, so tasks that need the agent to drive a real browser will not work.

Do I need Docker or a VPS?

No. OpenClaw's guides for a VPS have you install Node.js, run OpenClaw as a service and keep it updated yourself. Here the server already runs it: the newest OpenClaw installs when the server starts, the first start takes about a minute, and it comes back on its own if it stops. You get a console, files and SFTP if you want to look inside, and backups keep your agent's memory and settings (a few MB).
