Enable Crossplay lets players on any platform join your Valheim server. With it on, Xbox, PlayStation and Game Pass players join with the join code on the Play with friends card, and PC players can still join by address. With it off, only Steam players can see and join the server. It is on by default on every Valheim server type.
Change it
- Open your server in the panel and click Settings, then Game Settings.
- Find Enable Crossplay and flip the switch. It saves at once.
- Restart the server. The change takes effect at the next start.

What changes for players
| Enable Crossplay | Who can join | How |
|---|---|---|
| On | Players on any platform | Join code, address, or the server list |
| Off | Steam players only | Address, or the server list |
- Join codes exist only while crossplay is on. With it off, the Play with friends card says:
Crossplay is off, so only Steam players can join. - After you turn it on and restart, the join code appears on the card a few seconds after the server is open. See How to find your Valheim join code.
- Your world is not touched by this switch.
- A crossplay server cannot be joined by a local or loopback address, as Iron Gate's guide notes.
Crossplay and mods
Console players cannot install mods. On a Valheim BepInEx or Valheim Plus Mod server with crossplay on, the Mods page marks every mod players would need with Console players cannot join with this. While such a mod is loaded, Xbox, PlayStation and Switch players cannot join. Mods marked Server only keep the server open to them. See Console players cannot join your modded Valheim server.
If your group is PC only and uses client mods, you can turn crossplay off.
Changing server type
When you change server type, the panel keeps the value you had. A server that had crossplay on keeps it on. See How to switch your Valheim server to BepInEx or Valheim Plus.
