Console players cannot install mods. While a mod that every player needs is loaded, Xbox, PlayStation and Switch players cannot join. With crossplay on, the Mods page marks those mods Console players cannot join with this. Keep only mods marked Server only, and console friends can still join.
Find the mods that lock consoles out
- Open your server in the panel and click the Modding tab.
- On Your mods, look for the red label Console players cannot join with this.
- On the side card On this server, the row Crossplay reads
On. Console players can join while every mod is marked Server only.
When you add a mod like that, the window warns first: Crossplay is on. Console players cannot install mods, so while a mod marked "Console players cannot join with this" is loaded, Xbox, PlayStation and Switch players cannot join. PC players with the same mods still can.
Let console players in again
Pick one:
- Switch the marked mods off: open the mod's menu, choose Switch off, keep on the list, then Apply and restart.
- Remove them: How to remove mods or go back to plain Valheim.
- Keep a console-friendly list and a PC list as two profiles, and switch between them: How to use mod profiles on your Valheim server.
Choose mods that keep the server open
On Browse Thunderstore, pick the Server-side category, and look for Server only on each result. These run on the server only: players install nothing, console players included.
The labels come from what each mod's author says on Thunderstore. A mod with neither Server only nor Players need it too has not said; read its own page before you add it.
PC only is fine?
If your group plays on PC only, you can use any mods and share them with Share with players: How to share your Valheim mods with players. You can also turn crossplay off: How to turn crossplay on or off on your Valheim server.
