Is Sven Co-op free, and do players need Half-Life?
It is free on Steam, and since release 5.0 in January 2016 it no longer needs Half-Life. Players on Windows and Linux can join; there is no Mac or console version. See Which platforms can join your Sven Co-op server.
How many players can join?
Up to 32, the game's own limit, and up to the player slots of your plan. You set the limit with Max Players in Settings, Game Settings, or with the pencil on the Slots row on Overview: a whole number from 2 up to your plan's slots. See How many players can a Sven Co-op server have.
How do players join?
Click Join on Overview to copy the address, then in the game open the console with the backtick or ~ key and type connect and the address. See How to join your Sven Co-op server.
How do I know the server is ready?
The Console prints Connection to Steam servers successful. and the badge turns Online. See How to start your Sven Co-op server for the first time.
How do I change the map without a restart?
Type changelevel and the map name in the Console, for example changelevel sc_tetris1, or run the Change Map task on Quick Tasks. See How to change the map on your Sven Co-op server.
Can my server play the Half-Life campaign?
Yes, through the official portal map -sp_campaign_portal, which leads to the Half-Life, Opposing Force and Uplink stories. Load it in the Console with changelevel "-sp_campaign_portal", quotes included. See How to change the map on your Sven Co-op server.
Where do custom maps go?
In the svencoop_addon folder on the Files tab, never in svencoop. Upload the archive there and click Unzip. See How to add custom maps to your Sven Co-op server.
Does Sven Co-op have Steam Workshop?
No. The official FAQ says Workshop support "is planned for the future". Custom maps are uploaded as files instead.
How do I become admin?
Write your Steam ID on a line in svencoop/admins.txt, with * in front for the owner, and restart. Built in, Sven Co-op admins get cheat commands and an admin icon on the scoreboard. See How to become admin on your Sven Co-op server.
How do I kick a player?

How do I turn survival mode off?

Why does my hostname in server.cfg keep changing back?
The panel writes Server Name, Password and Region from Game Settings into server.cfg at every start. Change them there. See How to change the name, password and region of your Sven Co-op server.
Can I hide my server from the server list?
Yes. Set Region to -1 in Game Settings and restart. Players still join with connect and the address, and a join Password keeps strangers out.
How do I update the server?
Restart it. Every start checks Steam for a newer Sven Co-op build and installs it. See How to update your Sven Co-op server.
Is there a world to back up?
No. Each map starts fresh, so a backup protects your files: custom maps, server.cfg, admins.txt and the ban lists. See How to back up and restore your Sven Co-op server.
How much RAM does it need?

Can I use AMX Mod X or plugins?
The official FAQ says AMX Mod X runs through a third-party Metamod-P build, and Sven Co-op has its own AngelScript plugins. You install them by uploading files on the Files tab, following the official wiki.
A player cannot join. What do I check first?
