How much RAM does a Sven Co-op server need?

Sven Co-opUpdated Oct 30, 20263 min read

A Sven Co-op server needs little memory: an empty PlayNHost Sven Co-op server used about 88 MiB of RAM, measured twice. A server with players online uses more, so check your own server's Usage card on Overview during a busy evening.

What we measured

On a new PlayNHost server with nobody online, the server used about 87 to 88 MiB of RAM, the same on two measurements in September 2026. An empty server is the floor, not what a full server uses.

Check your own usage

  1. Open your server in the panel and find the Usage card on Overview.
  2. Click the RAM tab.
  3. Choose Live (30 minutes), Past 6 hours or Past day.
  4. Look at it while players are online, and after a long session on a big map.

The CPU tab next to it shows the processor use, where 100% is one CPU core. See How to read your server's usage graphs.

What if the server runs out of memory?

If the system ever stops your server because it needed more memory than its plan gives, Overview shows the card This server ran out of memory, with when it last happened and how often. Its See the usage button opens the graphs.

What else matters for a smooth server?

  • Player count. The official manual notes that "Most maps become overcrowded with more than 12 players." See How many players can a Sven Co-op server have.
  • Custom map downloads. Players download custom maps from your server when they join, and the official manual calls a fast download address "essential" for servers running non-standard maps: How to add custom maps to your Sven Co-op server.
  • Vote list size. More than 200 maps in mapvote.cfg may stop players joining, the manual warns.

If the server stopped on its own, read the last lines of the Console and see Sven Co-op server problems and fixes.
