PLAY SVEN CO-OP

Sven Co-op teams players up against computer-controlled enemies and puzzles across mission maps, on a customized GoldSrc engine licensed from Valve. It is free on Steam for Windows and Linux, with no macOS or console client. Players find your server in the Steam browser by region, or join with its IP and port.

ANGELSCRIPT PLUGINS AND CUSTOM MAPS

Sven Co-op has its own scripting language, AngelScript, for server plugins and whole server modifications. Plugins go into scripts/plugins and are listed in default_plugins.txt, uploaded over SFTP; custom maps go up the same way. A web host set in sv_downloadurl makes map downloads much faster for players, and we do not provide that host.

How many players can a Sven Co-op server hold?
The official server manual allows 2 to 32 players, and our plans give 16, 24 or 32 slots. Max Players goes straight into the server's +maxplayers startup option, and the panel refuses any value above your plan, so the cap is real. You can set it lower for a smaller group.
Do I need to own the base game to play?
No. Sven Co-op is a free, standalone game on Steam for Windows and Linux, so anyone on those systems can download it and join for free.
How do I switch campaigns or maps?
Use the Change Map quick task: type a map name such as svencoop1 and the server loads it straight away, with no restart. The Default Map field in Settings only sets the map the server boots into. Sven Co-op is map-based, so there is no persistent world to save before you switch.
Can I hide my server or set a join password?
Yes, both from Settings. Password sets the join password, and Region sets sv_region for the Steam server browser: 3 is Europe, 255 is International and -1 keeps the server out of the list. Both values are written into svencoop/server.cfg every time the server starts.
