Your Rust server did not wipe

RustUpdated Oct 21, 20265 min read

A wipe that did not happen is usually a schedule that is switched off, a backup that could not be made, or a seed that was kept. Start with the Wipe page: it shows whether any schedule is on.

1. Is a schedule on

  1. Open Wipe in the left menu. Under Your next scheduled wipe, a schedule with its date means one is on. None is on. means none is.
  2. Open Quick Tasks. A ready-made wipe arrives off. Switch it on under Schedules: How to set up automatic wipes on your Rust server.
  3. Check Skip while players are online on the schedule is off. When it is on and anyone is playing at the time, that run is skipped, unless When players are online under it is set to wait: then it runs once the server is empty, or when the wait is over.

2. Did the backup fail

With Back up first, and in every ready-made schedule, the wipe runs only after the backup has finished. If the backup fails, nothing is wiped and you get a notification.

  • A wipe started by hand on the Wipe page does not run when every backup slot is used: the backup cannot be made, and you get a notification. Delete an old backup under Backups and try again.
  • A scheduled wipe replaces the oldest backup that is not locked. If every backup is locked, there is no room: unlock or delete one.
  • After Run on the Map Wipe task in Quick Tasks: The backup is still running, so nothing was deleted. Run the wipe again once the backup has finished. Wait and run it again.
  • Or: The backup failed, so nothing was deleted. Check the Backups page, then try again.

See How to back up and restore your Rust world.

3. Is your map rotation in the way

A wipe that uses the map rotation checks it first, before the server is stopped or backed up, and stops with nothing deleted when it cannot be used.

  • The Map rotation card on the Wipe page says Your saved rotation cannot be used: add your maps again and click Save rotation.
  • The message says your map rotation could not be used because this server's startup command cannot load the next map, and that nothing was wiped: open a ticket and we update the startup command.

See How to set up a map rotation on your Rust server.

4. Is another wipe running

... is already running. Wait for it to finish before you run it again. Wait for the first run to end. The Console shows each step.

5. The wipe ran but the map is the same

  • You chose Keep this seed. The same world is generated again, empty. Choose Generate a new random seed or Use this seed next time.
  • Your map rotation's next map was the same map, for example a generated map with a fixed seed, or a rotation with one map. Check the list on the Wipe page.
  • Your server has a Custom Map URL. The map comes from the link and the seed decides nothing: How to use a custom map on your Rust server.
  • No seed was ever set. Without one, the default map is the same for every server. Set your own: How to choose your Rust world size and seed.

Open Activity and look for Ran a map wipe to see whether it ran: How to see what happened on your server.

6. The time

Ready-made schedules run on panel time, one hour ahead of London time. Force wipes stop the server at 21:00 panel time, which is 20:00 London time. Your next scheduled wipe at the top of the Wipe page shows it in your own time zone.

7. Permissions

The Wipe page needs the Files permission to delete, and Back up first needs the Backups permission to create: How to let a friend help run your Rust server.

Still stuck

This wipe cannot run on this server yet: the schedule that stops the server around it is missing. Nothing was deleted. means open a ticket. Nothing was deleted in that case.
