A plugin's settings are in a file in Files: oxide/config on Oxide, carbon/configs on Carbon. Edit the file, then reload the plugin with a command in the Console. Permissions are given with commands.
Back up first, or copy the file before you edit it. See How to back up and restore your Rust world.
Change a plugin's settings
- Open the Files tab.
- Go to
oxide/config(Carbon:carbon/configs). A plugin creates its settings file the first time it loads, named after the plugin, for exampleKits.json. - Open the file, change the values and save. Keep the file's format exactly: names in quotes, commas between entries.
- Open the Console tab and reload the plugin:
oxide.reload Kitson Oxide,c.reload Kitson Carbon, with the plugin's own name.
If the plugin does not load after your edit, the file has a typo. Put back your copy, or fix the line the Console names. The row on the Installed list shows Not running with the error on Oxide: How to fix a plugin that is not running on your Rust server.
Other plugin folders:
oxide/data: what the plugin stores while it runs. A wipe does not delete it: How to wipe your Rust server.oxide/lang: the plugin's messages.oxide/logs: the framework's logs.
Carbon keeps the same kind of folders under carbon, and a wipe leaves them alone too.
For how to edit files in the panel or over SFTP, see How to upload, edit and manage your server files.
Give permissions
Plugins check permissions for what players may do. Type these in the Console tab. Oxide uses oxide.; Carbon uses c. instead.
| Oxide | What it does |
|---|---|
oxide.grant user <name or SteamID> <permission> | Gives one player a permission. |
oxide.group add <group> | Creates a group. |
oxide.grant group <group> <permission> | Gives a group a permission. |
oxide.usergroup add <user> <group> | Puts a player in a group. |
The permission names are in the plugin's page on uMod, for example kits.use. The Carbon versions start with c., for example c.grant.
You need the console permission to type commands: How to let a friend help run your Rust server. More on commands: How to use the Console and commands on your Rust server.
