These are the options on the Settings, Game Settings page of a PlayNHost Rust server, taken from the panel's own definitions. Rows marked read only are set by your plan or the server and cannot be changed.
All settings
| Setting | What it does | Allowed | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Server Name | The name of your server in the public server list. | up to 60 characters, no double quotes | A Rust Server |
| Modding Framework | The modding framework to be used: carbon, oxide, vanilla. Defaults to "vanilla" for a non-modded server installation. | one of: vanilla, oxide, carbon | vanilla |
| Level | The world file for Rust to use. | up to 20 characters, no double quotes | Procedural Map |
| Description | The description under your server title. Commonly used for rules & info. Use \n for newlines. | no double quotes | Powered by PlaynHost |
| URL | The URL for your server. This is what comes up when clicking the "Visit Website" button. | a web address | http://playnhost.com |
| World Size | The size of a procedural map, from 1000 to 6000. A bigger map takes longer to generate and uses more memory and disk. Changing this generates a new world on the next start; the old one stays on disk until you wipe. | a number from 1000 to 6000 | 3000 |
| World Seed | The seed the world is generated from. Leave it empty and Rust generates the same map for everyone, every time; set a number between 1 and 2147483647 for a world of your own. Changing it takes effect on the next start, and the old map stays on disk until you wipe, so change the seed as part of a map wipe rather than on its own. | a number from 1 to 2147483647 | empty |
| Server Image | The header image for the top of your server listing. | a web address | empty |
| RCON Password | The password for RCON, which is how admin tools such as RustAdmin connect. Rust will not start without one: it crashes while writing its own startup line to the log, and the error it prints does not mention RCON. Letters, numbers, dots, dashes and underscores. | up to 64 characters, letters and numbers and these symbols: . - _ | empty |
| Save Interval | Sets the server’s auto-save interval in seconds. | a number | 60 |
| Additional Arguments | Extra startup parameters, added after the ones this panel sets. Rust keeps the FIRST value it is given for a setting and ignores later ones, so repeating anything the panel already sets here - the ports, the player limit, the world size and seed, the server identity - has no effect. Verified on protocol 2633: a trailing +server.maxplayers 7 left the server at 50. | text | empty |
| Server Logo | The circular server logo for the Rust+ app. | a web address | empty |
| Custom Map URL | Overwrites the map with the one from the direct download URL. Invalid URLs will cause the server to crash. | a web address | empty |
| Auto Update | Check for a game update each time the server starts. Rust patches on the first Thursday of the month and the client updates itself, so a server left behind cannot be joined at all. Leave this on unless you are deliberately holding a build; the check adds a few seconds to a start when there is nothing to download. | on or off | on |
| Max Players (read only) | The maximum amount of players allowed in the server at once. | set by your plan or the server | set by your plan |
| Query Port (read only) | Server Query Port. Can't be the same as Game's primary port. | set by your plan or the server | assigned to your server |
| RCON Port (read only) | Port for RCON connections. | set by your plan or the server | assigned to your server |
| App Port (read only) | Port for the Rust+ App. -1 to disable. | set by your plan or the server | assigned to your server |
Good to know
- Settings are read when the server starts, so restart after changing them. Changing World Size or World Seed generates a new world on the next start while the old map files stay on disk until you wipe. Back up first, because players start on an empty map; change them as part of a map wipe.
- The panel saves a value when you leave its field. If the value is not allowed, the panel tells you and keeps the old one.
- Passwords and tokens are not listed with a value. Each server starts with one set for you, or with none, as the row says.
