You can bring a Vintage Story world you already have, from your own computer or another host, to your PlayNHost server.
Back up first. Uploading a world with the same name as the one on the server replaces it. Create a backup of the current world (see How to create, download and restore backups), stop the server, and keep your own original files until the server loads the new world.
Upload and load your world
- Stop the server.
- Create the world in Vintage Story singleplayer if needed and find its .vcdbs file on your PC. On Windows the Saves folder is at %AppData%\VintagestoryData\Saves.
- Open data/Saves in Files. Uploading a file with the same name as the current world replaces it, and the current world is lost, so make a panel backup first (Backups, then Start backup).
- Upload your file. Either name it default.vcdbs so it replaces the current world, or keep its own name and set the world file path in data/serverconfig.json (SaveFileLocation) to data/Saves/yourfile.vcdbs.
- Delete the old default.vcdbs-shm and default.vcdbs-wal files if they are still there, since they belong to the world you replaced.
- Start the server. The seed, world size and climate settings are stored inside the uploaded world and cannot be changed afterwards. Use a world saved by the same game version as the server or an older one: a world from a newer game version may not load. If the server does not load your world, open a support ticket.
Large files are best uploaded with SFTP. See How to connect to your server files with SFTP and How to upload, edit and manage your server files.
Start a fresh world
Starting fresh can permanently remove the current world. Back it up first.
- Stop the server.
- Make a panel backup first. Everything built and explored in that world, including player inventories and progress, is lost once the file is removed.
- Delete default.vcdbs and any default.vcdbs-shm and default.vcdbs-wal files from data/Saves. Mods in data/Mods and your server settings are not removed.
- If you want a different seed, size or play style, set them in the world settings section of data/serverconfig.json before the first start, because they only apply while a new world is created.
- Start the server. A new world is generated on first start, which can take a little while.
