Vintage Story mods are zip files from the official mod database at mods.vintagestory.at, and they add content, tools and server features.
Back up first. See How to back up and restore your Vintage Story world.
Add a mod
- Easiest: enter the mod name in ModDB mods, using the last part of the mod's web address or its numeric id. Changes to this list apply only when support installs the server again, so ask support to apply it.
- By hand: stop the server, then upload the mod's zip file, without extracting it, into data/Mods in Files, and start the server again.
- Players who join are offered the server's mods and download them automatically. Mods that only run on the player's side must be installed by the player themselves.
- If a mod is not updated for your game version yet, ask support to set the server to the older version it supports, after you make a panel backup. An older server may not be able to load a world saved by a newer version.
Where files go
Open Files and use these places:
- data/Mods
- data/ModConfig
Check it worked
Once the server has restarted, read the Console. A mod that loaded shows up during startup, and problems show under Errors and Warnings. See How to use the console and run commands and How to add mods, plugins and modpacks.
If the server stops after you add a mod, remove the newest mod or restore your backup. See How to fix a server that will not start.
