How to upload your own V Rising world

V RisingUpdated Oct 5, 20264 min read

You can bring a V Rising world you already have, from your own computer or another host, to your PlayNHost server.

Back up first. Uploading a world with the same name as the one on the server replaces it. Create a backup of the current world (see How to create, download and restore backups), stop the server, and keep your own original files until the server loads the new world.

Upload and load your world

  1. Back up the server's current world first: download its folder from save-data/Saves/v4/ in Files (the folder is named after your current Save Name, world1 by default). Keep your original single-player save as well until the server has been checked.
  2. Stop the server.
  3. On your PC, find the single-player save: in the game's Load Game menu pick the save and choose Go to Directory. It is inside a folder named v4, and the world folder has a random GUID name.
  4. Copy that world folder into save-data/Saves/v4/ on the server using Files or SFTP. You may rename it to something simple, and keeping only the newest AutoSave file is enough. Use a name different from your current Save Name, unless you want to replace that world: a folder with the same name as the live world merges into it or replaces it.
  5. Under Settings, then Game Settings, set Save Name to exactly the folder name you copied.
  6. Empty both Game Settings Preset and Game Difficulty Preset, so that neither replaces the rules stored in your save.
  7. Start the server and check the console for the world loading. Join and make sure your base is there.
  8. Optional, only after you have confirmed the server loads the world and you hold a copy of the folder somewhere safe: you can delete the local single-player copy so the world is not listed twice. Delete it from inside the game; this also removes its Cloud Save copy, which is why the copy of the folder must be kept.

Large files are best uploaded with SFTP. See How to connect to your server files with SFTP and How to upload, edit and manage your server files.

Start a fresh world

Starting fresh can permanently remove the current world. Back it up first.

  1. Stop the server and download a backup of save-data/Saves/v4/ in Files. Nothing is deleted by the next steps, but the backup protects your current world.
  2. Set Save Name to a new name, for example world2. The old world stays on disk untouched and you can switch back to it later.
  3. Choose the Game Settings Preset and Game Difficulty Preset you want for the new world, since some settings cannot change once a save exists.
  4. Start the server; a fresh world is created under the new name.
