V Rising Server Settings Generator
Set PvP or PvE, clan size, castle limits, loot, crafting, day length and wipes, then copy a ready ServerGameSettings.json and ServerHostSettings.json. Free, no sign-up, works on any host.
161 of the 166 settings in Stunlock's default file for version 1.1.15 (the starter kit IDs and three lists are written only with "Write every setting"), plus 24 documented host settings. Limits measured on a test server on 7 November 2026.
Start from a preset, then change anything:
This generator needs JavaScript. Every setting, its default and what it does is listed in the tables further down this page.
How to use these files on any V Rising server
- Stop the server.
- Put
ServerGameSettings.jsonin theSettingsfolder of the server's persistent data path: the folder you pass with-persistentDataPath, or%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Stunlock Studios\VRisingServer\Settingswithout it. Do not edit the default file inVRisingServer_Data/StreamingAssets/Settings: Stunlock advises against it and an update can replace it. - In
ServerHostSettings.json, leaveGameSettingsPresetandGameDifficultyPresetempty. In our tests a Game Settings Preset was used instead of your file. A Game Difficulty Preset replaces the ten difficulty values its preset file lists, each marked on this page; our test confirmed it for the three we changed. - Start the server. Its log prints
Loaded ServerGameSettings:followed by the values it read. A later "clamped between" warning, or a block that says "from Difficulty Preset", means a value was changed after that.
How to use them on PlayNHost
- Tick For a PlayNHost server above. The panel writes the name, password, ports, player limit, saves and RCON into ServerHostSettings.json at every start from the Settings page.
- Open your server in the Game Panel and click Stop.
- Click Settings and set both Game Settings Preset and Game Difficulty Preset to the empty choice at the top of the list. New servers have Game Difficulty Preset set to Difficulty_Normal, which replaces the difficulty values of your file.
- Click Files, open
save-data/Settings, click New file, paste the ServerGameSettings.json text and name the fileServerGameSettings.json. If the file is already there, open it and replace its text. - Click Start. In Console, the line
Loaded ServerGameSettings:lists the values the server read. - Changing wipes or smart autosaves? Open
save-data/Settings/ServerHostSettings.jsonin Files and add the lines of the second tab inside the existing braces, with a comma between entries. Do not replace this file: the panel writes the rest of it at every start.

Instant setup, DDoS protection, automatic backups and a 72-hour money-back guarantee. Name, password and presets are set on the panel's Settings page.

Questions
Where is ServerGameSettings.json on a V Rising server?
Stunlock's default is in VRisingServer_Data/StreamingAssets/Settings. Your own copy goes in the Settings folder of the persistent data path, which on PlayNHost is save-data/Settings. The server loads the default first, then yours.
Why are my V Rising settings ignored?
Usually a preset. In our tests GameSettingsPreset was used instead of your file, and GameDifficultyPreset replaced the difficulty values of your file that its preset lists, such as sun damage and blood drain. Leave both empty. Also check that the file is valid JSON: one missing comma stops it loading.
How do I make a V Rising server PvE?
Set GameModeType to PvE, or pick the PvE preset at the top of this page, which copies Stunlock's StandardPvE preset.
How do I change the clan size?
Set ClanSize in ServerGameSettings.json. The Duo PvP preset sets it to 2, as Stunlock's DuoPvP preset does.
How do I set up automatic wipes?
In ServerHostSettings.json set ResetDaysInterval to the number of days between wipes, and DayOfReset to a weekday if you want it on a fixed day. The server checks at start, begins a new world and keeps a backup of the old one.
Good to know
- Where the settings come from. Every game setting, its default and its order are from Stunlock's own default file in the dedicated server (version 1.1.15, Steam build 25169871). The words each choice accepts were read from the server's code. Stunlock documents the host settings but not the game settings, so the short descriptions here are our reading of the setting names and Stunlock's presets.
- Limits were measured. We started a test server with every number far too high, then far too low, and read the values it loaded from its log. Where the game cut a value back, this page shows that range.
- Tested with this page's files. V Rising servers started with files made here loaded every value as written, 31 of 31 for a short file and 167 of 167 for a full one, as their logs printed.
- Mistakes are not always reported. In our tests, a choice field given a number it does not have stopped the server during start with "Failed to load json file". A misspelled choice word was not reported at all: the server quietly used a fallback, and for
GameModeTypethat fallback is PvE, not the PvP of the default file. Numbers outside a measured range are cut back with a warning in the log. Copy the words from this page and check the log after a change. - Short files are allowed. Stunlock's instructions say the override file can hold only the settings that differ from the default. That is what this page writes unless you tick "Write every setting".
- The panel's help notes that some settings may not apply once the world has been created; we have not tested which. Back up your world before big changes.
