The card This server ran out of memory on your server's Overview page means Rust needed more memory than your plan gives it, and the system stopped the server. Start it again, then make it lighter or move to a plan with more memory.
What the card says
It needed more memory than its plan gives it, and the system stopped it. It also says when it last happened and how many times in the last 7 days. The card only appears in a week when this really happened, and it goes away by itself after a quiet week.
It has two buttons: Add more memory and See the usage.
Get the server back
- Click Start at the top of the page.
- Watch the Console until it shows Server startup complete.
- Rust saves every Save Interval, so the world is as it was at the last save before the stop.
Why Rust runs out
- The map. A bigger World Size uses more memory, and generating a new map on wipe day uses the most: How to choose your Rust world size and seed.
- The wipe cycle. Memory grows as players build, so a server that is fine after a wipe can run out near the end of the cycle.
- Players. More players online means more for the server to hold.
- Plugins. Each one adds work, and some keep a lot in memory.
What else makes memory grow: How much RAM does a Rust server need?
Fix it
- Look at the RAM tab of the Usage card on Overview, with players online, to see how close you run to the limit.
- Remove plugins you do not use: How to remove a plugin from your Rust server.
- Wipe more often, or pick a smaller World Size at the next wipe: How to set up automatic wipes on your Rust server.
- Restart once a day at a quiet hour: How to restart your Rust server on a schedule.
- If it keeps happening, move to a plan with more memory: open My plan in the left menu (owner only). See How to change your plan or billing cycle.

Good to know
- A server stopped this way can lose the minutes since its last save, so do not leave it running at the limit.
