How to invite friends to your Valheim server

The Play with friends card on your Overview page has the address, the password, the join steps and, while the server runs, the join code for console friends. Click Copy invite message, paste it in your chat, and everyone has what they need. If a friend should help run the server, give them their own access instead of your password.

Send the invite message

1. Open your server in the panel. The Play with friends card is on the Overview page.
2. Start the server if it is stopped, so the message can carry the join code.

3. Check the rows:

   • Address is the address to type in the game, as address:port.
   • Password is the server password. If you cannot read it, the row says Hidden for your account: ask the server owner.
4. Click Copy invite message at the bottom of the card. The button says Copied for a moment.
5. Paste the message into your chat. It reads like this:

Join my Valheim server: address:port

Password: your password

How to join: followed by three numbered steps, then Join code for console and Game Pass (new at every restart): and the code.

The steps are the ones your friends follow in the game: Join game, then Add server, then the address and the password. Console and Game Pass friends join with a code instead. The join code line is added only while the server is running with crossplay on.

After a restart

The join code can change at every restart, including the Daily restart. If console friends cannot get in after a restart, copy the invite message again, or send them the code the card shows now. See How to find your Valheim join code.

If a friend cannot connect

Click Can’t connect? on the card. It lists the usual causes: the server is still starting, the password does not match exactly, or the game version is different. Ask support opens a ticket with the details filled in.

Friends on a modded server

Let a friend help run the server

Do not share your account password. Invite them from Team & Roles in the left menu, or with Invite people, and give them a role. Co-owner, Moderator and Member are built in, and you can make your own. See How to invite friends and give them access to your server.

The password is shown only to people who can read the server settings: the owner, or a person whose role allows it. Everyone else sees Hidden for your account.
