- Join your server once so it knows you (or read the Console tab output).
- Find your Platform User ID: press F2 in game to open the player panel, or find it in the Console tab output. The format is [Platform]_[User ID], case sensitive (for example Steam_ followed by your SteamID64).
- Stop the server, open Files and go to .config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/.
- Open adminlist.txt (create it if it is not there) and add your ID on its own line, one ID per line.
- Save the file and start the server. There is no admin setting in Settings, then Game Settings; admin rights come only from this file.
- Be careful with permittedlist.txt: as soon as it has any entry, everyone not listed is blocked. Use bannedlist.txt to block a player.
Useful admin commands
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
F5 | Opens the in-game console (the game must have been started with the -console launch option on Steam). Run the commands below there. |
devcommands | Enables the cheat and developer commands in the console; using most of them marks the character and world as cheated and blocks achievements. |
kick PLAYERNAME | Kicks a player from the server. |
ban PLAYERNAME | Bans a player from the server. |
unban PLAYERNAME | Removes a player's ban. |
banned | Lists all banned players. |
Admin commands are typed in the in-game console (F5). The panel Console tab only shows the server's output and does not accept commands for Valheim. See How to use the console and run commands.
Good to know
- Only give admin rights to people you trust.
