To remove a mod, open its menu on the Mods page and choose Remove, then Apply and restart. To take it out for a while, choose Switch off, keep on the list. To go back to plain Valheim, use Edit Server Type and choose Valheim, keeping your files. A world played with mods can behave oddly without them, so back up first.
Remove one mod
- Make a backup: How to back up and restore your Valheim world.
- Open your server in the panel and click the Modding tab.
- On Your mods, open the mod's menu (Actions for the mod) and choose Remove.
- The window lists what is removed. Also remove the mods only this one needed is ticked; untick it to keep them on the list as your own choice.
- Click Remove, then Apply and restart.
At the next start the Console says the mod was removed, and that its settings in BepInEx/config are kept. Only the mods you chose yourself have Remove; a mod listed under Installed because your mods need them goes when nothing needs it any more.
Players can remove the mod from their PC too, if the server no longer needs it.
Switch a mod off for a while
Choose Switch off, keep on the list in its menu, then Apply and restart. The row shows Switched off. Switch on brings it back.
Mods you uploaded yourself
Files you put in BepInEx/plugins/ with Files are not on the Mods page. Stop the server, open Files, go to BepInEx/plugins/, open the file's menu and choose Delete file, then start the server.
Go back to plain Valheim
- Make a backup, and download your world to be safe: How to download your Valheim world to your PC.
- On the Overview page click Edit Server Type.
- Choose Valheim, click Next step twice, and on Review your change untick Delete my existing files and start clean (recommended). so your worlds are kept.
- Keep Back up first (recommended). ticked, tick I understand this reinstalls my server and it may not start. and click Change server type.
The mod files stay on the server, but plain Valheim does not load them. The Mods page shows Add mods to this server again.
About your world
A world played with mods can have mod items and pieces in it. Without the mod, those can disappear or behave oddly when the world loads. That is how the game works, and it is why a backup comes first. If it went wrong, rewind the world: How to rewind your Valheim world to an earlier copy.
