Set Team size limit in Server Settings (server.cfg) on the Settings tab and click Save & restart. The panel describes it as The most players one team can have. 1 is a solo server, 2 is duos. It goes from 1 to 128, and a new server has 8.
Change the limit
- Open your server in the panel and click the Settings tab.
- In the left card, under Config files, click Server Settings (server.cfg).
- In the Gameplay group, type the number in Team size limit.

- Click Save & restart. The server restarts, so players are disconnected for a short while.
| Server type | Team size limit |
|---|---|
| Solo | 1 |
| Duo | 2 |
| Trio | 3 |
| Quad | 4 |
A number outside 1 to 128 is refused when you save.
Tell your players
Put the limit in your server's name or description, for example Duo or Max 3, so players know before they join: How to change your Rust server name and description.
Good to know
- The value is written to
server/rust/cfg/server.cfg, which Rust reads when it starts. Save only keeps it for the next start. - A wipe does not change it: How to wipe your Rust server.
