Keen Games says an idle server process uses about 4.4 GB of RAM, each player adds up to about 100 MB, and the server should stay under about 6 GB in total. Its recommended specification is 16 GB of RAM, both for groups of 4 to 6 players and for 16 players. Plan on those numbers: 6 GB or more, and 16 GB recommended. A reading of memory taken right after the server starts is lower than this, because the world is still loading, so do not size your plan from it. Watch memory in the panel with players online.
Our free Game Server RAM Guide shows the memory a Enshrouded server used in our own measurement.
Check your own usage
Open your server's Overview page and look at Usage, then the RAM tab, while players are online. An empty server tells you little, so read it with players on. See How to read your server's usage graphs.
Tips for a healthier server
- Each player slot adds load on the server; if CPU or memory is the bottleneck, lowering the player limit helps.
- The developer recommends a strong CPU for 16 players (an 8 core, 3.7 GHz class processor) and about 2 Mbit/s of upload bandwidth per player.
- Worlds with many large bases produce bigger saves, up to about 100 MB, so keep backups of the savegame folder.
Change plan
If memory keeps reaching your plan's limit while players are on, move to a bigger plan. See How to change your plan or billing cycle.
