How much RAM does a BeamMP server need?

BeamMPUpdated Oct 22, 20263 min read

BeamMP-Server itself is a small program: it passes car data between players and sends them your mods. What makes it need more is the number of players and cars, heavy server plugins and a big mod pack. Read your own server's usage with players on, then decide whether you need a bigger plan.

What uses the server's resources

How smooth the driving feels also depends on each player's own computer and connection, because the game runs on their PC.

Read your usage

  1. Open your server in the panel. The Usage card on Overview shows memory and CPU.
  2. Look at it while your usual number of players is on, not on an empty server.
  3. For the history, see How to read your server's usage graphs.

If memory stays close to your plan's limit while players are on, or Overview shows the card This server ran out of memory, a bigger plan helps.

Player slots

Your plan sets the most players. Change the number with Edit slots, within that limit: How to change your BeamMP server name, map and slots. More slots do not make the server faster.

A bigger plan

Open My plan in the left menu (owner only) and look at the bigger plans. See How to change your plan or billing cycle.

Lag without a full server

  • Ask which players lag. If it is one player, it is usually their connection or computer.
  • Check What players download on Mods & maps. A player still downloading shows Downloading mods on the Players page, not lag.
  • Remove a plugin you recently added and restart, to see if it was the cause. A plugin error shows as [LUA ERROR] in the Console.
  • Lower Max Cars for big events.
