How to change your BeamMP server name, map and slots

BeamMPUpdated Oct 22, 20265 min read

Change the name, description and map in Settings, Game Settings, or on the Go live card, and the player slots with Edit slots on Overview. Restart the server and the changes reach BeamMP's list. Do not edit ServerConfig.toml by hand: the panel writes that file from your settings every time the server starts.

Why not ServerConfig.toml

BeamMP keeps its settings in ServerConfig.toml, but on PlayNHost the panel fills it in from Game Settings at every start. A hand edit is overwritten the next time the server starts. The help text at the top of Game Settings says the same: change things in the panel, not in that file.

Change the name and description

  1. Open your server in the panel and click the Settings tab. Your options are in Game Settings.
  2. Click in Server Name, type the new name and press Enter. It can be up to 128 characters.
  3. Click in Server Description, type a short line and press Enter. Also up to 128 characters.
  4. Click Restart now on the banner that says Saved. The server must restart before these take effect.

The Go live card on Overview edits the same two fields, with a preview of how the launcher shows them. Names and descriptions can have colours: How to add colors to your BeamMP server name.

The Server Name row of the server card at the top of Overview is a different name: it is only for you in the panel. See How to rename your server and change player slots.

Change the map

The easiest way is the Mods & maps tab:

  1. Click the Mods & maps tab.
  2. On the Server map card, open the list and pick a map. Use Search maps to find one.
  3. Click Use this map. The page says Map saved. Restart the server to load it.
  4. Restart the server.
The Server map card on Mods & maps

The list has the maps that come with the game, such as West Coast, USA; Italy; Utah, USA; Johnson Valley; Hirochi Raceway and Grid Map, and the maps found in your own mods. You can also pick the map in step 4 of the Go live card, or type it into Map in Game Settings, written like /levels/west_coast_usa/info.json.

For a map from a mod, see How to use a custom map on your BeamMP server.

Change the player slots

  1. On Overview, click Edit slots on the Active players card, or the pencil on the Players row of the server card.
  2. In Edit Player Slots, choose the number. The window says how many players your plan allows.
  3. Click Update. The server restarts.

Max Players in Game Settings shows the number in use and is marked Read only: Edit slots is the way to change it, so it always stays within your plan. More slots than your plan allows need a bigger plan: How to change your plan or billing cycle.

Change the cars per player

Max Cars in Game Settings is how many cars each player may have at a time, from 1 to 10. The default is 1. Type a number, press Enter and restart. To block some vehicles or set a lower limit while the server runs, see How to block vehicles and limit cars on your BeamMP server.

When players see the change

Name, description, map, tags and slots are read when the server starts. If the server is in BeamMP's list, the BeamMP server list card shows Saved, not live yet with what is waiting, and a Restart now button, or Restart with a warning when players are on. The warning tells players in chat one minute and ten seconds before the restart.

Good to know

  • Name and description cannot hold line breaks or control characters. In the description, ^p starts a new line in the launcher.
  • Every other option is in BeamMP server settings reference.
