You can bring a 7 Days to Die world you already have, from your own computer or another host, to your PlayNHost server.
Back up first. Uploading a world with the same name as the one on the server replaces it. Create a backup of the current world (see How to create, download and restore backups), stop the server, and keep your own original files until the server loads the new world.
Upload and load your world
- Stop the server.
- Back up any existing save with the same name first (download its folder from Saves). Uploading replaces files with the same names.
- In Files, open the .local/share/7DaysToDie folder. Its name starts with a dot; if you cannot see it, connect with SFTP and show hidden files, or ask support.
- Upload your save folder so it ends up at Saves/
<World>/<Save Name>/. For a random map also upload its terrain folder into GeneratedWorlds/<world name>/. Navezgane and the pre-built maps ship with the game, so they need no upload. - In Settings, then Game Settings, set World to the map your save was made on and Save Name to the exact name of your save folder. For a random map, also set Random World Seed and Random World Size to exactly the values the original world used. If they do not match, the server will not find your upload and generates a new world instead.
- Start the server and check the console shows the world and save loading. Everyone must be on the same game version the save was made with.
- Characters belong to a specific save, so players keep their old characters only if the save and their player IDs match.
Large files are best uploaded with SFTP. See How to connect to your server files with SFTP and How to upload, edit and manage your server files.
Start a fresh world
Starting fresh can permanently remove the current world. Back it up first.
- Stop the server.
- Easiest and safest: change Save Name to something new. The server starts a fresh world and leaves the old one on disk, so you can switch back later.
- To change the map instead, change World (and the seed and size for the random map). That also starts a separate save and leaves the old one untouched.
- To free the disk space of an old world, first download a copy of its folder (or take a backup), then delete its folder from Saves in Files. Deleting it permanently removes that world, its bases and its characters.
- Start the server. The first start of a new random map takes longer while the terrain is built.
