Set World on the Settings tab, Game Settings page. For a random map also set Random World Seed and Random World Size. Restart the server. Switching maps starts a separate save, and your old world stays on disk.

| Pre-built 8 km map 1, Pre-built 8 km map 2 | Ready-made random maps, 8 km wide, that ship with the game. |
Switch the map
- Open your server in the panel, click the Settings tab, then Game Settings.
- Choose the map in World.
- For Random map from your seed, type a Random World Seed and choose a Random World Size.
- Click Restart now.
Seed and size
- Random World Seed: any word or number, up to 32 characters: letters, numbers, spaces and
_ . -. The same seed and size always build the same map, so a friend who knows them can see it too. A new seed builds a different map. - Random World Size: Small (6144 m), Medium (8192 m) or Large (10240 m). A bigger map takes longer to build and gives players more to explore.
Both are used only with Random map from your seed.
The first start of a random map
The first start with a new seed or size builds the terrain, which takes several minutes. Do not stop the server while it does. The map is stored in .local/share/7DaysToDie/GeneratedWorlds, so later starts reuse it.
What happens to your current world
Each map keeps its own saves, in .local/share/7DaysToDie/Saves, one folder per map with your Save Name inside. Switching World starts a fresh world on the new map and leaves the old one where it is. Set World back, with the same seed and size for a random map, to play the old one again.
Characters belong to a save, so players start new characters on the new map.
To restart on the same map instead, see How to start a new world on your 7 Days to Die server. For every setting, see 7 Days to Die server settings: every option explained.
