Valheim settings will not save

The panel checks every value before it saves it. If a value breaks a rule, it tells you and keeps the old one. The rules are short, and this article lists them, with the message you see for each.

The messages

The value must be at least 5 characters.Server Password is 5 to 20 characters.Use a longer password.
The value may not be greater than 53 characters.Server Name is up to 53 characters.Shorten the name.
The value may not be greater than 20 characters.World Name and Server Password are up to 20.Shorten it.
The value must be an integer.World Save Interval, Backup Count, Backup Shorttime and Backup Longtime take whole numbers.Remove decimals.
The value must be at least 60.World Save Interval is at least 60 seconds.Use 60 or more.
The selected value is invalid.A dropdown or switch got a value it does not know, such as a preset that is not in the list.Pick from the list.
The value format is invalid.A double quote or backslash in Server Name, Server Password or World Name, or a slash in World Name.Remove those characters.
A message that the format is not allowedA World Name starting with a dot or with _main..Start the name with a letter or digit.

It saved, but nothing changed

A saved value takes effect at the next start. Restart the server: the bar at the top of the page has Restart now. A ModPack change is different: it is read when the server is installed, so a restart does not apply it. See How to install a Thunderstore modpack on your Valheim server.

The page is read only

You cannot edit the options if your account does not have the Change startup permission on this server. Ask the owner. See How to invite friends and give them access to your server.
