Unturned has two kinds of add-ons: Steam Workshop items, which are maps and content that players download automatically when they join, and Rocket plugins, which are server-side plugins that run on the server and come from the RocketMod framework that is already built into your server.
Back up first. See How to back up and restore your Unturned world.
Add a mod
- For Workshop items: find the ID at the end of the item's Steam Workshop URL (the number after id=).
- Open the Workshop tab, or Settings, then Game Settings, and paste one or more IDs into Steam Workshop Item IDs, separated by commas with no spaces, then restart. Items that another item requires are fetched automatically. Players download Workshop items themselves when they join.
- Let the first start finish. A large item can take a noticeably long time to download.
- If an item provides its own map, open Files, go to Servers, then into your server's folder, and set that map's name in Server/Commands.dat before the server will use it.
- For Rocket plugins: stop the server, open Files, go to Servers, then your server's folder, then Rocket, then Plugins (create the Plugins folder if it is missing), upload the plugin there and start the server. If the plugin does not load, read the Console for errors or open a support ticket. Players normally install nothing for a plugin.
Where files go
Open Files and use these places:
- Servers, then your server's folder, then Server/Commands.dat (inside Files)
- Servers, then your server's folder, then Rocket/Plugins (inside Files)
Check it worked
Once the server has restarted, read the Console. A mod that loaded shows up during startup, and problems show under Errors and Warnings. See How to use the console and run commands and How to add mods, plugins and modpacks.
If the server stops after you add a mod, remove the newest mod or restore your backup. See How to fix a server that will not start.
