Rising World server problems and fixes

Rising WorldUpdated Oct 30, 20265 min read

Most Rising World server problems on PlayNHost come from three things: the server is still generating its world, players search the server list instead of connecting by IP, or World Name no longer matches the world folder. Each problem below starts with the most likely cause and its fix.

The server never reaches Online

The badge turns Online only when the Console prints Dedicated server is ready!.

  1. Open the Console tab and read the last lines. If new lines still appear, the server is working: a first start generates the world, and with Auto Update on, every start downloads a waiting update first.
  2. If the Console stops with an error, restart once. With Auto Update on, a Steam download that failed is tried again on the next start.
  3. If you changed World Name under Settings, Game Settings, the server generates a new world with that name, and a first start with a new world takes longer. Your old world is kept in Worlds under Files: type its folder name back in World Name to load it again.

The general checklist: How to fix a server that will not start.

Players cannot join

  • Connect by IP. In Rising World's Multiplayer menu, use the red button for connecting to an IP address, and paste the full Server Address, port included: How to join your Rising World server.
  • Wait for the ready line. Online and Dedicated server is ready! must both be there.
  • Password. It must match Server Password under Settings, Game Settings exactly, and a changed password only applies after a restart.
  • Same version. After a Rising World update, the server must be updated too: How to update your Rising World server.
  • Ban or whitelist. If one player cannot join and others can, check that they are not banned, and that Server_UseWhitelist in server.properties is not true: How to kick and ban players on your Rising World server.

The server is not in the server list

Rising World's server list reads each server's details from a second port, one below the game port, according to the developer's dedicated server guide. That port is not part of your server's address, so your server may not show in the list. Connecting by IP does not need it: use the full Server Address while the server is Online.

A console command did nothing

Rising World's server console can take up to a minute to pick up a typed command. Wait before you type it again. Type commands without a slash, for example saveall. The commands that work: How to use the Console and commands on your Rising World server.

The server started a new, empty world

World Name decides which folder in Worlds loads. If no folder has that exact name, Rising World creates a new world with it. Your old world is still there:

  1. Click Stop and wait for Offline.
  2. Open Files, then Worlds, and note the exact name of your world's folder, capitals included.
  3. Type that name in World Name under Settings, Game Settings and press Enter.
  4. Click Start.

Game Mode changed nothing

Game Mode is only used when a new world is created, so changing it does nothing to a world that already exists. To play in the other mode, start a new world: How to start a new world on your Rising World server.

Recent progress is missing after a stop or crash

The world on disk is only as new as its last save. Run Save World in Quick Tasks before you stop the server, and never use Kill unless the server is stuck. When you click Stop, the Console may print lines about sockets or a crash right at the end: that comes from Rising World closing down.

RCON will not connect

RCON is not offered on Rising World servers at PlayNHost, so an outside RCON tool has nothing to connect to: Can you use RCON on your Rising World server?. Use the panel's Console instead.
