Mods load from the top of Enabled mods downwards, and a later mod can override an earlier one. A mod that needs a library or framework mod must come after it. If the order is wrong, the page says A library loads after a mod that needs it and offers Move the libraries up.
Fix it with one click
- Open the Workshop tab and look under Enabled mods.
- If you see A library loads after a mod that needs it, the page names the pair in a line such as "A needs B, which is listed after it", where A is the mod and B the library. Click Move the libraries up.
- Click Save, then Restart to apply.
Move one mod by hand
Each row has two arrows. Their labels say to move that mod earlier or later. Click them to change the order, then Save. Put a mod that overrides another one below the one it overrides.
Required mods that are missing
If a Workshop item needs items that are not in Workshop items, that list says "N required mods are missing". Click Add all to add the missing items to Workshop items (at the end, which is fine: that list has no order) and click Save. Then add their names to Enabled mods from Names for the mods you are downloading, move them above the mods that need them, and Save that list too.
Check the result
Restart and open Did they load? (last start). A mod marked Not loaded with the note "Mods are missing a library they need" means the game could not find a library. The note names it. Add the Workshop item that provides it to Workshop items and its name to Enabled mods, above the mods that need it: How to check that your Project Zomboid mods loaded.
Good to know
- The order of Workshop items does not matter. Only Enabled mods is ordered.
- Missing items or Lua errors after adding a mod are usually a load order problem or an old mod: Your Project Zomboid mods do nothing.
