How to check that your Project Zomboid mods loaded

Project ZomboidUpdated Oct 18, 20264 min read

After a start, the card Did they load? (last start) at the bottom of the Workshop tab reads the game's own log and marks each enabled mod Loaded, Not loaded or No sign in the log. A mod that downloaded is not necessarily loaded, so check this card every time you change the mod list.

Read the report

  1. Start the server and wait until the badge says Online.
  2. Open the Workshop tab and scroll to Did they load? (last start).
  3. Read each row:

    • Loaded: the game's log shows the mod was found and used.
    • Not loaded: the game could not find a mod by that name.
    • No sign in the log: the log says nothing about it. A mod that changes no game files prints nothing when it loads, so this is not an error on its own.
  4. Click Check again to read the log again.
The Did they load report that checks Project Zomboid mods after a start

If the server had not finished starting, the card says so: "The server had not finished starting when this was read, so the list may not be complete yet." Wait and click Check again. If there is nothing yet, it says "Nothing to read yet. Start the server and check back once it is up." The report reads the console history, which keeps the most recent lines only.

Why a mod is Not loaded

The card says it plainly: the name differs from the mod's own ID, the mod was made for an older build, or its Workshop item is not in the download list.

  1. Compare the name with the mod's real ID: How to find the Mod ID of a Project Zomboid mod.
  2. Look for Outdated on the item in Workshop items: Project Zomboid mods and Build 42: what to know.
  3. Make sure the item is in Workshop items.

The Console lines behind it

Search the Console for mod with the magnifier on the Console card of the Overview page. A loaded mod prints mod "<id>" overrides ... when it changes game files. A missing library prints required mod "<name>" not found. The panel's own lines show what it asked for: [playnhost] Workshop Items verified and applied: ... and [playnhost] Mods=.... See How to use the Console on your Project Zomboid server.

Join and look

A final test is to join and look for what the mod adds. Players need the same mods: How to join your Project Zomboid server.
