The Mod ID is the short name that Enabled mods needs. It is not the number at the end of the Workshop address and it is not the mod's title. The panel usually offers it for you in the box Names for the mods you are downloading. If it does not, read it from the mod's Workshop page or from the id= line of its mod.info file.
Three different things
| Name | Example | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Workshop number | 3436537035 | Workshop items |
| Title | Useful Barrels | Nowhere. It is only for people. |
| Mod ID | UsefulBarrelsMP | Enabled mods |
The Mod ID has no spaces. Titles often do. If the Enabled mods field rejects what you typed, you have almost certainly pasted the title.
Way 1: let the panel offer it
- Add the item in Workshop items and click Save.
- Look at Enabled mods. The box Names for the mods you are downloading says "These come from the Workshop pages of the items in your download list. Adding them is what actually switches those mods on."
- Click the name, or Add all for several.
Way 2: the Workshop page
Authors usually write the Mod ID in the mod's description, as "Mod ID". Open the page on Steam and look for it. A mod can have several Mod IDs: an item can hold more than one mod, and you add each one you want.
Way 3: the mod.info file
Every mod has a mod.info file with a name= line (the title) and an id= line (the Mod ID). Once the server has downloaded the item, you can find the item's folder under Files, in steamapps/workshop/content/108600/<Workshop number>/. The mods are inside it, in a folder called mods. On Build 42 the mod.info file can sit one level deeper, in a folder such as common or 42.0. Open it and read the id= line. Only that value works.
Good to know
- A Build 42 guide may write the ID with a backslash in front, for example
\UsefulBarrelsMP. The panel accepts that form too. - Copy the ID exactly as written.
- After adding names, restart and check the report: How to check that your Project Zomboid mods loaded.
- Back to the steps: How to add a Workshop mod to your Project Zomboid server.
