The world your Project Zomboid server loads is the one named by Server Name under Settings, then Game Settings. Check it in three places: the Server Name row, the Console lines at the start, and the .cache/Saves/Multiplayer folder under Files. If the name does not match your world's folder, the server makes a new empty world.
1. The name
Open Settings, then Game Settings, and read Server Name. It must be exactly the name of your world folder, including capitals.
2. The Console lines
Start the server and read the Console. To search it, click the magnifier on the Console card of the Overview page (the Console tab has no search box) and type world or server name. Healthy lines look like this:
server name is "<name>": the name the game is using.checking server WorldVersion in map_t.bin: the game is reading an existing world.Loading WorldDictionary:/home/container/.cache/Saves/Multiplayer/<name>/WorldDictionary.bin: the world folder it opened.scriptmanager = ..., isNewGame = false: the game found a world that already existed.World seed: ...: the seed of the world.
3. The folders
- Open Files, then
.cache, thenSaves, thenMultiplayer. - Each folder is a world. The one named like your Server Name is the one in use.
- Check
.cache/Serverfor<name>.iniand<name>_SandboxVars.lua, and.cache/dbfor<name>.db.
If it is the wrong one
- A new empty world next to yours means the name did not match: Your uploaded Project Zomboid world did not load.
- To go back to another world, set Server Name back: How to switch between Project Zomboid worlds on your server.
- If the world seems to have vanished: Your Project Zomboid world seems to have vanished.
