The Discord group links the in-game chat to a Discord channel through a Discord bot that you create yourself. You need a bot token from the Discord developer site and the name of the channel. Treat the token like a password.
Open the editor
- Open your server in the panel and click the Settings tab.
- In the list on the left, under Config files, click Server Settings. The file name is shown at the top.
- If the list says No config files yet, start the server once. The game writes its settings file the first time it runs.

The editor only saves while the server is stopped, because the game writes this file while it runs. Stop the server, change the settings below, then click Save only or Save & start. The full steps are in How to change Project Zomboid server settings in the panel. Headings such as Discord appear in capitals in the editor, and the search box at the top finds any setting by its name.
Every setting in Discord
| Setting | What it does | Values |
|---|---|---|
| Discord chat bridge | Links the in-game chat to a Discord channel through your own Discord bot. | On or off |
| Discord bot token | The token of the Discord bot the server signs in as. | Text (the field shows dots) |
| Discord chat channel | The name of the Discord channel the chat is linked to. | Text |
Steps
- In Discord, create a bot, invite it to your server and copy its token. Discord explains this on its own developer pages.
- Stop your Project Zomboid server and open Settings, then Server Settings.
- In the Discord group, paste the token into Discord bot token and type the channel name into Discord chat channel.
- Turn on Discord chat bridge, click Save only or Save & start, then start the server.
- Type a message in the game's chat. It should appear in the channel.
Never post the token in a ticket or a public channel. If it leaks, make a new one in Discord and paste it here again.
Good to know
- Settings you change here apply at the next start. A sandbox rule or server rule that is not in this editor can still be edited under Files, with the server stopped.
