Your Enshrouded server stopped because of a mod

EnshroudedUpdated Oct 23, 20265 min read

Read the last pnh-eml: line in the Console. It names the mod and the reason. Fix or remove that mod in the mods folder, or switch the mod loader off, then click Start. Your world was not opened, so nothing in it changed.

Why the server stops

With the mod loader on, a mod that fails to load stops the server instead of starting it. This is on purpose: the mod loader never opens your world without the mods it was played with, because the world could lose the items those mods added. The game's original data is put back after the failed start.

Read the Console

  1. Open your server in the panel and click the Console tab.
  2. Find the last line that starts with pnh-eml:. It is one of these:
The Console saysWhat it meansFix
the mod my_mod failed to load, so the server stopped instead of opening your world without it. Reason: ...This mod has an error, or does not work with this game version.Update or remove that mod.
a mod in mods/ could not be read, so the server stopped ...A mod's files are broken or not in the form EML reads.Fix or remove what the reason names.
EML could not read this version of the game, so the server stopped ...The game was updated and the mod loader itself does not support the new version yet.Turn the mod loader off to play without mods until EML is updated.
... is one folder too deep. Move it up so it sits directly in mods/.The mod sits in a folder inside another folder.Move it up in Files.
... has no mod.json in it, and EML stops the start for a folder that is not a mod. There is a folder in mods that is not a mod.Remove it, or put the mod's files in it.

Each failure line ends with Full log: and a file in the logs folder. That file, which ends in .eml.log, has all the details. Open it in Files if the reason is not clear, or send it with your ticket.

Fix it

Update or remove the mod. Open Files, then mods. Replace the mod with a version made for the current game, or delete it. Then click Start. See How to update or remove mods on your Enshrouded server.

Or play without mods for now. Click the Modding tab and switch off Mod loader (EML), then click Start. The server starts with the game's original data, and your mods stay in mods for later.

One mod that fails stops all of them. If you added several at once, the Console tells you which one to look at. Mods made before Enshrouded 1.0 may not work on 1.0: check the mod's page for a version made for 1.0.

Other mod loader lines

  • A line with so the server started without any mods: the mod loader skipped the mods this time and the server is running without them. Fix or remove the mod it names, then restart.
  • pnh-eml: download failed, starting without mods: the mod loader could not be downloaded at this start, so the server started without mods. Restart to try again.
  • ... is not read: EML takes a mod's folder or a .zip. Unpack it into mods/.: a .7z or .rar file is ignored. Unpack it on your PC and upload the folder.
  • enable_console in eml.json was set back to false: a setting in the mod loader's own file would stop the server from starting, so the panel turned it off. Nothing to do.

Still stuck

Turn the mod loader off and check the server starts without mods. If it does not, the problem is not a mod: see Your Enshrouded server is stuck on starting. Otherwise open a ticket with the pnh-eml: lines and the mod's name.
