With Game Version on latest (the default), your server installs each new DDNet release by itself the next time it starts. To update now, restart the server.
Update now
Restart the server. If there is a new release, the Console shows Updating DDNet to ... and then DDNet is now ..., before the usual start lines with the new version: server: version .... See How to start, stop, restart and force-stop your server.
Choose a version
Game Version on the Settings tab, under Game Settings:
latest: the newest release, and every new one after it at the next start.- A release number such as
20.1.1: stays on that release. nightly: DDNet's nightly build, as it was when the server was installed. It does not move on by itself.

A change to a release number or to nightly is applied by a reinstall of the server. A restart alone does not apply it. Take a backup first, then ask support to reinstall it for you. Your uploaded maps, myServerconfig.cfg and records stay; data/autoexec_server.cfg goes back to the one that comes with DDNet.
Going back to latest needs no reinstall: the next start installs the newest release.
If the update does not happen
- The Console says
The update could not be downloaded or did not pass its checksum; starting the installed version.: ddnet.org could not be reached, or the download did not match the checksum ddnet.org publishes. Your server starts on the release it has, nothing is lost. Restart later to try again. - A reinstall stops with
No DDNet download matches Game Version: the release number in Game Version is not on ddnet.org's download page. Uselatest, nightlyor a number listed there.
Update every day by itself

DDNet and Teeworlds 0.7 players
You do not choose between DDNet and Teeworlds 0.7: the server takes players on both at the same time. See How to let Teeworlds 0.7 players join your DDNet server.
