A freshly started stock server uses about 2.4 GB of memory with nobody connected. That is an idle figure: mods, more players and more AI all add to it, so check memory on the Overview page with players online and choose a larger plan for modded or busy servers.
Check your own usage
Open your server's Overview page and look at Usage, then the RAM tab, while players are online. An empty server tells you little, so read it with players on. See How to read your server's usage graphs.
Tips for a healthier server
- Leave Max Server FPS at its default; the game's developers recommend a cap in the 60 to 120 range so the server does not try to use every resource.
- Set Performance Log Interval to a number of seconds to print FPS, frame time, memory, player and AI counts in the console, then set it back to 0 when done.
- Keep Verify Server Files off in normal use; it makes every start much slower.
- Add mods one at a time and watch memory, since each mod adds content the server must load.
Change plan
If memory keeps reaching your plan's limit while players are on, move to a bigger plan. See How to change your plan or billing cycle.
