How much RAM does an ARK: Survival Ascended server need?

ARK: Survival AscendedUpdated Oct 5, 20262 min read

ARK: Survival Ascended is very memory hungry. The official wiki says an empty The Island server needs roughly 8 to 10 GiB, The Center about 10.5 to 12 GiB, and other maps 7 to 12 GiB, before players and mods. We do not have a measured idle figure for this game yet.

Check your own usage

Open your server's Overview page and look at Usage, then the RAM tab, while players are online. An empty server tells you little, so read it with players on. See How to read your server's usage graphs.

Tips for a healthier server

  • Pick a plan with at least 8 to 10 GiB for The Island (more for The Center), plus headroom for players and mods.
  • Each extra mod and a higher player count add to memory use, so add mods one at a time and watch for out-of-memory restarts.

Change plan

If memory keeps reaching your plan's limit while players are on, move to a bigger plan. See How to change your plan or billing cycle.
