Our measured idle memory for an empty server is about 2.1 GB (2128 MB), and a server boots fine on the smallest 4 GB plan. The first install downloads roughly 17 GB and takes about 14 minutes.
Check your own usage
Open your server's Overview page and look at Usage, then the RAM tab, while players are online. An empty server tells you little, so read it with players on. See How to read your server's usage graphs.
Tips for a healthier server
- A new random map builds its terrain on first start, and the Small size (6144) is the quickest and lightest of the three.
- Add mods one at a time and watch how the server behaves before adding more, because memory use grows with mods.
