When a mod has a newer version on Thunderstore, its row on the Mods page shows Update to and the version. Click it, or click the side card's button, for example Update 3 mods, for all of them, then Apply and restart. Under Mod updates you can let the panel do this for you, and Pin this version keeps one mod where it is.
Update by hand
- Open your server in the panel and click the Modding tab.
- On Your mods, a mod with an update shows Update to and the new version. Click it.
- The window lists what changes, for example Changes with the old and new version, and any mod the new version needs. Click Update.
- Or click the update button on the side card On this server, for example Update 3 mods, then Update all.
- Click Apply and restart.
After an update, players who need the mod must update too. Make a new code with Share with players: How to share your Valheim mods with players.
Let the panel update mods
On the side card, Mod updates has three choices:
| Choice | What happens |
|---|---|
| Off | Tell me, I update by hand. You get a notification when updates are out. Nothing changes on the server. |
| Frameworks only | Frameworks such as Jotunn and other libraries move to their newest version. |
| All mods | Every mod that is not pinned moves to its newest version. |
With Frameworks only or All mods, the new versions are put on your list and install at the next start, for example the Daily restart. Switch on Restart for updates when nobody is on to have the panel restart the server for them, only while nobody is online. The panel looks for updates every 30 minutes.
Keep one mod on its version
- Open the mod's menu (Actions for the mod) and choose Pin this version, or Choose a version to pick an older or newer one.
- A pinned mod shows a pin and no Update to button. Updates leave it alone until you unpin it.
- To follow updates again, choose Unpin, follow updates again.
If another mod needs a newer version of a pinned mod, the window says so: needs ... or newer, but you pinned ... Unpin it first.
After a Valheim update
A game update can stop a mod working until its author releases an update. If a mod stops loading after a game update, look for Update to on its row, or hold the game version: How to update your Valheim server and hold a version.
