When a mod did not load, its row on Your mods says why in red, and a banner says how many mods did not load on the last start. The server runs without them. Match the reason below and fix it, then click Apply and restart.
Find the reason
- Open your server in the panel and click the Modding tab.
- A red banner says how many mods did not load on the last start,
Each one says why on its row below. The server runs without them. - On Your mods, read the red line on each failed mod.
The Overview page shows the same count with See why on the Mods page.
What each reason means
| The row says | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| A mod it needs did not load: ... | A mod it depends on failed first. | Fix the mod it names, then this one loads too. |
| A file it needs is missing (...). Usually a dependency that is not installed. | Something it needs is not on the list. | Remove the mod and Install it again from Browse Thunderstore, so its dependencies come with it. |
| Another mod on the list is incompatible with it: ... | Two mods do not work together. | Remove or switch off one of them. |
| Not built for this Valheim version: ... | The mod is for another game version. | Look for Update to on its row, or Choose a version that fits. Mods marked Updated for Valheim 1.0 are more likely to work. |
| Could not be installed at start: ... | The download from Thunderstore or its check failed. | Restart once. If it stays, remove the mod and add it again. |
| It stopped with an error: ... | The mod failed while loading. | Check the mod's page on Thunderstore with Open on Thunderstore, or remove it. |
| BepInEx did not load it: ... | The loader refused it. | Read the reason; it is often a version problem. |
In the Console
Search for playnhost] mods in the Console. A line could not apply names the mod and why it could not be installed, and [playnhost] Mods could not be applied: see above follows. The game starts anyway.
Still failing
- Switch the mod off for now with Switch off, keep on the list, then Apply and restart, so the rest of your list runs cleanly.
- After a game update, many mods need their own update: How to update mods on your Valheim server.
- Open a ticket with the mod's name and the reason the row shows.
