How to find a player's ID for Valheim admin, ban and allow lists

ValheimUpdated Oct 22, 20263 min read

The easiest way is not to type an ID at all: wait until the player is online, then use the button the Access window shows for them, or the ... menu on their row of Active players. The panel writes the right ID for you. To add someone who is offline, you need their platform ID: a 17-digit SteamID64 for Steam, or the console ID with its prefix.

Pick the player while they are online

  1. Ask the player to join your server.
  2. In the panel, on Overview, click Access on the Active players card.
  3. On the Admins, Banned or Allowed tab, the player is listed under Online now with a button. Click it.

This needs PlayNHost Tools, which name the players who are on: How to turn on PlayNHost Tools on your Valheim server.

Type a Steam player's ID

A Steam ID is 17 digits starting with 7656. It is the number at the end of the player's Steam profile address, for example 76561198012345678. Type the 17 digits in Add by player ID.

In the game, F2 shows your own ID. That is the way Iron Gate's server guide describes.

Type a console player's ID

Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo players are written with their platform and an underscore, then the ID as the game shows it, for example Xbox_2535400000000001. Use Xbox_, PlayStation_ or Nintendo_ as the start.

If the ID is refused

The panel says That is not an ID the game accepts. A Steam ID is 17 digits starting with 7656; console players use Xbox_, PlayStation_ or Nintendo_ and the ID. Check:

  • No space before or after the ID.
  • 17 digits for Steam, no letters.
  • The underscore and the exact platform name for consoles, with capitals as shown.

Where do I find a player’s ID? in the Access window repeats these three answers.

Where the IDs end up

The Access window writes them into the game's own files, adminlist.txt, bannedlist.txt and permittedlist.txt in .config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/, one ID per line. You do not need to edit those files yourself.
