How to kick and ban players on your V Rising server

V RisingUpdated Nov 3, 20263 min read

On a V Rising server, admins kick and ban players from the game's own console: sign in with adminauth, then use kick, banuser, bancharacter, banned or unban. Bans are stored in save-data/Settings/banlist.txt, one SteamID per line, which you can also edit in the PlayNHost panel under Files.

Ban a player from the game

  1. Make sure you are an admin: your SteamID64 must be in save-data/Settings/adminlist.txt. See How to become admin on your V Rising server.
  2. Join the server, open the console with ~ (enable it in the options menu first) and type adminauth.
  3. Type banuser followed by the player, or kick to remove them without a ban. If you are unsure what a command expects, type list to see the commands the game offers.
  4. Check the ban with banned.

The server writes every ban you make in the game to banlist.txt by itself, as Stunlock's server instructions describe. bancharacter bans a character rather than the account, and unban lifts a ban.

Ban or unban someone in the panel

Use this to ban a player who is not online, or to lift a ban without joining the game.

  1. Open your server in the panel and click the Files tab.
  2. Open save-data, then Settings, then banlist.txt. If it is not there, click New file and name it banlist.txt when you save.
  3. To ban, add the player's SteamID64 on its own line. To unban, delete their line.
  4. Click Save content (or Create file for a new file).
The banlist.txt file in save-data/Settings open in the file editor of a V Rising server

Stunlock's instructions say this file can be edited by hand, one SteamID per line. If a hand edit does not take effect while the server runs, restart the server.
