These are the options on the Settings, Game Settings page of a PlayNHost Team Fortress 2 server, taken from the panel's own definitions. Rows marked read only are set by your plan or the server and cannot be changed.
All settings
| Setting | What it does | Allowed | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Default Map | The map the server loads on start, for example cp_dustbowl or ctf_2fort. | letters, numbers and underscores | cp_dustbowl |
| Steam Login Token | A Steam Game Server Login Token. Your server is listed and joinable without one: it logs into an anonymous game server account, VAC still turns on, and the only thing the console reports is that "Server ranking in server browser will be negatively impacted". A token gives the server a permanent identity and better placement in the browser. Create one for free at https://steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers using App ID 440, paste it here, then restart. Use your own Steam account: a token belongs to the account that made it. | exactly 32 letters and numbers, or empty | empty |
| Install SourceMod | Adds SourceMod and Metamod:Source, the standard toolkit for admin commands and community plugins. Turn it on and reinstall the server to install them; your plugins then live in tf/addons/sourcemod. Note: reinstalling later can reset plugin configs, so back them up first. | on or off | off |
| Auto Update | Check for a game update each time you reinstall, so your server stays on the build players are running. This does not check on every start, only on reinstall. Turn it off only if you need to stay on a specific build for SourceMod plugin compatibility, then reinstall to apply it. | on or off | on |
| Server name | The name players see in the in-game server browser and on the scoreboard. No spaces, asterisks or question marks: the startup line hands this to the game as a bare word, where a space ends it and the rest is dropped and a * or ? is expanded as a filename pattern, so join words with - or _. | up to 64 characters, no spaces, double quotes, backslashes, asterisks or question marks | A-PlaynHost-TF2-Server |
| RCON password | Set this to run admin commands from an RCON tool while the server is up. Leaving it empty keeps remote administration switched off, which is the safer setting. This is not the join password, and it should not be the same one. Letters, numbers, dashes and underscores only. | 1 to 30 characters, letters, numbers, dashes and underscores | empty |
| Max Players (read only) | The player limit included with your plan. This field is read-only. To run with fewer players, click Players on your server overview and pick any number up to your plan limit - you can raise it back whenever you like. Upgrading your plan raises the limit itself. | set by your plan or the server | set by your plan |
Good to know
- Server name, RCON password, Default Map and the Steam Login Token are read when the server starts, so restart after changing them. Install SourceMod and Auto Update only take effect when support reinstalls the server. A wrong Steam Login Token is worse than none, so double-check it before restarting.
- The panel saves a value when you leave its field. If the value is not allowed, the panel tells you and keeps the old one.
- Passwords and tokens are not listed with a value. Each server starts with one set for you, or with none, as the row says.
