Most problems with a SCUM server come down to a few causes. Start with the one that matches what you see.
The server does not show up in the in-game server browser
Why: The server is still starting (the first start downloads and sets up a large game) or the browser list has not refreshed.
Fix: Wait until the panel shows the server as running, give it another minute or two, then refresh the list and search by the exact Server name. If it still does not appear, ask support.
My new Server name, password or Playstyle does not change
Why: These values are written into the server settings file at every start, and edits made directly in the file are overwritten.
Fix: Change them under Settings, then Game Settings and restart the server.
I added my Steam64 ID to AdminUsers.ini but I am not an admin
Why: The file is only read when the server starts, or the ID has a typo or extra space.
Fix: Stop the server, check the ID is on its own line with no spaces, save, and start the server again.
I cannot open the Server Settings menu with Escape
Why: Your ID is only listed in AdminUsers.ini, but the menu needs it in ServerSettingsAdminUsers.ini too.
Fix: Add your Steam64 ID to ServerSettingsAdminUsers.ini in Files, in SCUM, Saved, Config, WindowsServer, then restart the server.
The server stops right after starting once I add a mod file
Why: The game checks every pak file for a matching signature and the server exits when one is unsigned.
Fix: Stop the server and remove the added pak file (and its folder if you created one) under SCUM, Content, Paks. Mods are not supported on this server. Back up first if you are unsure what you changed.
The world looks reset or characters are missing after restoring a backup
Why: Only SCUM.db was restored, or the old -wal and -shm files were left next to it, so the three files no longer match.
Fix: Stop the server, delete all three save files in SCUM, Saved, SaveFiles, upload the full matching set from your backup, then start.
I cannot set Max players higher than my plan allows
Why: Max players comes from the plan you bought, so it is read only.
Fix: Use Edit player slots on the Overview page to go lower (this restarts your server), or upgrade the plan to raise the limit.
Still stuck?
Open a ticket in the category that fits and include the last 50 to 100 lines of the console. See How to open a support ticket and How to fix a server that will not start.
