The Rust live map will not draw

The Live map draws a picture of your map only when the server is running and fully started, has an RCON Password, has a fixed World Seed (or a custom map), and already runs the map you set. The message under The map was not drawn tells you which one is missing.

Draw the map is greyed out

Your server has to be running to draw its map. Start the server and wait until the Console shows Server startup complete, then click Draw the map.

RCON is off

The page says RCON is off, or the message says the server has no RCON password set. The live map talks to your server over RCON.

1. Open the Settings tab, then Game Settings, and fill in RCON Password.
2. Restart the server.

The panel's message says to set it under Settings, Startup Parameters. On a Rust server the field is in Game Settings. See Your Rust server will not start without an RCON password.

No fixed seed

This server has no fixed seed, so Rust makes a different map every time it starts and a picture of it would not last.

1. Open Wipe in the left menu and run a wipe with Generate a new random seed or Use this seed. Either one sets a fixed seed. Or set World Seed in Game Settings, which gives a new, empty map at the next start.
2. Start the server and draw the map.

Still running its previous map

Your server is still running its previous map: its new size or seed loads at the next restart. Restart it, then draw the map. You changed World Size or World Seed, or a wipe set a new one, and the server has not started on it yet. Restart, wait for Server startup complete, then draw.

The server did not answer

• Your server did not answer. It has to be running and fully started to draw its map. It is still starting, or it stopped. Wait for Server startup complete and try again.
• Your server did not draw its map. Try again once it has fully started. Same fix.
• If you changed the RCON Password without a restart, the server does not answer the panel either. Restart it.

The picture is gone

The map picture is no longer on your server. Draw it again. The picture is a file in your server's main folder, and it was deleted. Click Draw again, the last button in the bar above the map.

Good to know

• Drawing pauses the game for a few seconds, longer on a bigger map. When players are on, the panel asks first and says how many will notice.
• After every wipe that changes the map, the page asks you to draw again.
