How to use the Console and commands on your RimWorld Open World server

RimWorld Open WorldUpdated Oct 30, 20266 min read

To run a command on a RimWorld Open World server, open the Console tab in the PlayNHost panel, type the command without a slash and press Enter. Type help to list all 23 commands. Each command takes an exact number of words: op Alice works, op alone prints Command [op] had incorrect parameter count. Asked for [1] and got [0].

Run a command

  1. Open your server in the panel and click the Console tab. The server must be Online.
  2. Type the command in the box at the bottom, for example list, and press Enter.
  3. The answer appears in the Console, after the panel's own date and tag, with the server's time first, for example [18:21:07] | List of connected players [2].

Words are split at spaces, so names with spaces cannot be used in commands. A misspelled command prints Command [x] is not recognized by the program. Please try again.

reloadReloads the server configuration.
clearClears the server's console.
wipeDeletes every account, colony, settlement, faction and the world. Asks you to type it twice.
shutdownSaves player files and stops the server. Stop in the panel sends this.
exitStops without saving. Asks you to type it twice; use Stop instead.

The descriptions follow the server's own help text and the Open World wiki's Console commands page, which marks reload as "(unstable)". Prefer a restart to reload.

Send a message to everyone

  1. Type announce and press Enter. The Console prints Type the message to send:.
  2. Type your message and press Enter. The Console prints Sent announcement: [your message].

Players see the announcement as a letter in the game. say works the same way and puts the message in Open World's chat instead. Player chat also shows in the Console as [CHAT] lines.

Send an event to a player

events prints ten events with their numbers: 0 Raid, 1 Infestation, 2 Mechanoid Cluster, 3 Toxic Fallout, 4 Manhunter Pack, 5 Wanderer Pawn, 6 Animal Pack, 7 Space Chunks, 8 Generate Quest, 9 Trader Caravan. Type invoke, the player's name and the number, for example invoke Bob 9 for a trader caravan. The Console prints Sent event to player [Bob]. The player must be online.

Before you use transfer, cleanup or wipe

Take a backup first: these three change or delete player data. transfer disconnects both players, then swaps the settlement and save of the two accounts. cleanup deletes the account, colony save and settlement of every player whose account file has not been read for 14 days (its own help text says 7 days); it goes by file times, not by when the player last played, so it can remove players who are still active. wipe resets the whole server and shuts it down. See How to back up and restore your RimWorld Open World server and How to wipe or reset a colony on your RimWorld Open World server.

Can I run commands from inside the game?

Yes, as an admin. A player made admin with op types the command with a slash in front in Open World's chat, for example /kick Bob, and the answer comes back in chat. list and status print their answer in the panel Console only, and announce and say wait for a line typed in the Console, so use those four in the Console. See How to become admin and ban players on your RimWorld Open World server.

Can I run a command on a schedule?

Yes. On Quick Tasks, the Send Command task sends any text to the Console, and you can schedule it. The Backup Data task, listed for this game under All tasks, sends backup. See the general guide How to schedule tasks and automatic backups and How to use the console and run commands.
