A RimWorld Open World server on PlayNHost lets as many players be online at once as your plan includes: 10, 20 or 40. The server enforces it: when it is full, the next player sees "The requested server is currently full". You can lower or raise the number within your plan's limit with the pencil on the Slots row on Overview.
How is the limit enforced?
Before every start, the panel writes your slot count into the game's Data/Config.json as its maximum player count. Open World checks it when someone connects: if as many players as that are already online, it refuses the new one, and the Console shows [Tried to join but server is full] with their IP.
The limit counts players online at the same time, not accounts. More players can register and keep colonies on the server; only that many can be online at once.
Change your player slots
- Open your server in the panel. On Overview, find the Server details card.
- Click the pencil on the Slots row ("Change the player slot count").
- The Edit Player Slots window says "Your plan allows up to" your plan's number of players and "This will restart your server."
- Set the number and click Update. The server restarts with the new limit.
Under Settings, Game Settings, Max Players shows the same number, marked Read only: change it on Overview as above.

Questions people ask
Do all players need to be online for the world to exist? No. The server keeps every account, colony save and settlement while players are away, so each player joins when they like. Each colony is played on its owner's own PC, so it moves on while that player plays.
