You can manage the people on your Project Zomboid server from the Active players card on the server's Overview page. The panel sends the game's own commands for you and reads the answer back, so you see whether the game accepted it. You do not need to be in the game or to type anything in the Console.
Before you start
- The server must be running, and the player must be online for kick, ban, access level and adding to the whitelist.
- The panel talks to the game over its remote console (RCON), using the RCON Password under Settings, then Game Settings. If you change that password, restart the server, otherwise the game refuses the panel's password.
- You need the console permission on the server. If you share the server with helpers, see How to invite friends and give them access to your server.
- Player names must use letters, digits, spaces and a few simple characters, up to 32. If a name has characters the panel cannot send safely, it tells you to use the Console instead.
Kick or ban a player
- Open the server in the panel and go to Overview.
- On the Active players card, open the actions menu for the player (Actions for and their name).
- Choose Kick or Ban. You can add a Reason (optional) that is shown to the player: letters, digits, spaces and simple punctuation, up to 80 characters, with no quotes.
- Confirm. A kick lets the player rejoin straight away. A ban stops them rejoining until you lift it.
Lift a ban
See How to unban a player on your Project Zomboid server.
Give a player an access level
- In the player's actions menu, choose Set access level….
- Pick Admin, Moderator, Overseer, GM or Observer, or None (removes their access level).
- Click Set level. It applies straight away and lasts until you change it.

Use the whitelist
- Add someone: the player must be on the server. In their menu, choose Add to whitelist, then Add.
- Remove someone: on the card, click Whitelist, type the name exactly as it is on the whitelist and click Remove. The person does not need to be online.
The whitelist matters when the server is closed to new players: How to run a whitelist-only Project Zomboid server.
If an action fails
The game's own answer is shown when it refuses something, for example that no such player is online. The panel also limits how fast kicks and bans can be sent, so wait a minute and try again if it says there are too many. If the card shows No answer from the server, it is starting, stopped or not answering on its RCON port: The Active players card says No answer from the server on Project Zomboid.
Kicks, bans and access changes are recorded in the Activity log: How to see what happened on your server.
